ADMISSIONS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Fall 2008
The Department of Ethnomusicology admits new students in the Fall Quarter only. The filing period for applicants for fall 2008 is November 1st through November 30th, 2007.
Only applicants who select Ethnomusicology as their first choice major on the application will be considered. Applications received after November 30th will be considered late and may not be processed.
When applying please list a current email address as this will be our primary method of contact with you.
You may only apply using the online web site ww.ucop.edu/pathways. Paper applications are no longer available. Please contact the UCLA Office of Undergraduate Admissions & Relations with Schools (UARS), Box 951436, Los Angeles, CA. 90095-1436 if you are unable to access the application web site.
Supplemental documents for all applicants who have met the November 30th deadline, will be available online in December.
All applicants to the Ethnomusicology major are required to:
- Meet all eligibility requirements for admission to the University of California as a freshman or transfer applicant.
- Submit all supplemental materials as indicated on the Supplemental Materials page.
- Audition in person or on videotape. See the Audition and Interview Process page for more information.
Admissions decision process:
At the conclusion of all auditions, the department’s admissions committee evaluates each applicant and determines who should be recommended for admission. If approved your application will be reviewed by the UCLA undergraduate admissions office for academic eligibility. They then notify each applicant of official and final admission status.
Transfer applicants:
In reviewing transfer applicants, preference is given to those who have a minimum 3.00 grade-point-average and have completed all of the University and School of the Arts & Architecture General Education Requirements (or IGETC if a California community college transfer). All applicants are accepted to the University on the basis of “work in progress”. Therefore, it is important that any changes in class schedules be approved in advance by UARS.
The Department of Ethnomusicology undergraduate advisor Alfred Bradley is available to meet with prospective students by appointment. Applicants considering transferring to UCLA from another institution are encouraged to seek advice early in the application process. For further information, or to schedule an appointment, please call (310) 825-4768 or email us using the contact us page.
